Dr. Pieter Dorrestein joined UCSD as of September 1, 2006. He holds appointments in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Departments of Pharmacology, Chemistry and Biochemistry. His lab will connect microbial genomics and proteomics for the discovery of the functional roles of orphan genes that produce natural products of therapeutic value. In addition to this, he aims to elicidate the functional roles of post-translational modifications with particular empasis in their biosynthesis and involvement in antibiotic resistance. Dr. Dorrestein is proud to have the most advanced mass spectrometric tools on the UCSD campus in his laboratory to achieve this goal.
