    - Aaron Aslanian, postdoctoral trainee from 2005-2007, who has just received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the California Division of the American Cancer Society, entitled "Regulation of Transcription Factor Function in Apoptosis by Phosphorylation", for the period September 1, 2007 through August 31, 2010.

    - Tiffany Yano, postdoctoral trainee from 2005-2007, on identifying a terrific career opportunity at Invitrogen Corporation in Carlsbad, CA. We wish Tiffany all the best!

    - Matt Gentry, postdoctoral trainee from 2003-2005, who was recently approved for a K99/R00 award from NINDS (1K99NS061803-01) to pursue his research on dual-specificity phosphatases.

  • HIGHLIGHTS / RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

    - January 25, 2007, Dr. Alex Hoffmann, Cancer Center Member and training grant faculty member, Molecular Link between Inflammation and Cancer Discovered - study led by Dr. Hoffman and published in the journal Cell. For UCSD News Center article, click here.

    Also, congratulations to Dr. Hoffman who has been granted a 4-year accelerated promotion to Associate Professor at UCSD, with tenure, effective July 1, 2008.

    - March 22, 2007, Richard D. Kolodner, Cancer Center Member and training grant faculty member, honored with Landon-AACR Prize for Basic Cancer Research. For Moores UCSD Cancer Center article, click here.

    - April 20, 2007, Dr. Beth Baber, former postdoc supported by this training grant, named recipient of 2007 DLA Piper-Athena FlexMBA Scholarship through UCSD Rady School of Management. Dr. Baber is in the process of establishing The Nicholas Conor Institute for Pediatric Cancer Research, named after her son who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2005.     - May 1, 2007, Moores UCSD Cancer Center NCI Core Grant Renewed. Update from Moores UCSD Cancer Center Director, Dr. Dennis Carson, "Following almost two years of application preparation and review, our NCI core grant has been renewed effective May 1, 2007. The five-year award amounts to approximately $20 million. Accompanying the grant is the continuation of our status as an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center, one of 40 in the nation."

    - May 22, 2007, Dr. Michael G. Rosenfeld, Cancer Center Member and training grant faculty member, awarded Cancer Center seed money in the amount of $20,000 for project entitled "Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Ewing's Sarcoma: Roles of Novel Non-coding RNAs."
